How can we help?
Logging an accident or incident on the phone
For all staff: teachers, assistants and lunchtime supervisors
How do I sign in for the first time?
- Install BumpSlip from the App Store or Google Play.
- Enter your school email address and tap “Email me a sign-in link”.
- Type the 6-digit code from the email into the app.
You only need the code once on each phone. After that, Face ID, your fingerprint or your phone passcode opens the app.
How do I log a slip?
- Tap “Log an incident”.
- Choose the pupil. Start typing their name to find them quickly.
- Choose where it happened and tick everything that happened.
- Write what you did, for example “Cold compress for 10 minutes”.
- Choose what happens next: stays in school, collected, or sees a doctor.
- Tap “Sign and save slip”.
The office sees it straight away. You don’t need to phone the parent: the office does that.
The pupil isn’t on the list
- Tap “Not on the list? Type their name”.
- Type their name and class, then carry on as normal.
Let the office know, so they can add the pupil to the list.
There’s no signal on the field
Log the slip as normal. If there’s no signal, the app keeps it on your phone and sends it by itself as soon as there is. The home screen shows “waiting to send” until it has gone. Don’t sign out while slips are waiting.
If it’s urgent, such as a head injury, tell the office in person or by phone as well.
What happens with a head injury or allergic reaction?
The office gets an email and a red bell lights up in their office log straight away. This also happens when a pupil needs collecting or to see a doctor. For a head injury, a parent must always be told, and the parent copy lists the warning signs to watch for.
A child is upset, or I’m worried about their safety
Use “Upset or anxious” for a child who was distressed and needed time to calm down. If you’re worried about a child’s safety, tell your Designated Safeguarding Lead. Don’t put it on the slip: a copy goes home to the parent or carer.
I made a mistake on a slip
Tell the office. Slips can’t be deleted, so there’s always a full record. The office can update parent contact and collection details, and every change is kept in the slip’s history.
Face ID or my fingerprint isn’t working
Tap “Unlock” and choose to use your phone passcode instead. If that doesn’t work either, tap “Sign out” and sign in again with your school email.
I’ve got a new phone
Install BumpSlip and sign in with your school email and the 6-digit code, the same as the first time.
The office: checking slips and telling parents
For office staff, on a computer at bumpslip.com
How do I set up two-step sign-in?
- Install an authenticator app on your phone, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator.
- Sign in at bumpslip.com. You’ll be asked to set up two-step sign-in.
- Press “Set up two-step sign-in” and scan the code with the authenticator app.
- Type the 6-digit code the app shows.
Office staff can see every pupil’s records, so this keeps them safe if someone learns your email. You’re asked for a code each time you sign in on a computer.
Where do I see new slips?
Open “Office log”. Every slip appears there as soon as it’s signed, newest first. The red bell at the top shows urgent slips you haven’t opened yet. Click any slip to see it in full.
How do I call a parent and record that I spoke to them?
- Open the slip in the Office log.
- Click the parent’s number to call, or press “Copy number” to paste it into your phone system.
- Under parent contact, type who you spoke to.
- Save. The time is recorded for you.
How do I send the parent their copy?
- Open the slip and check it.
- Press “Approve and send”.
The parent gets an email with a link to the slip, from your school’s name. The slip then shows when it was sent, and when the parent has read it.
A parent says they didn’t get the email
- Check their email address on the Pupils page.
- If it was wrong, correct it in your school’s system and re-upload your pupil list.
- Open the slip and press “Send again”.
Ask them to check their junk folder too.
How do I record who collected a pupil?
- Open the slip.
- Under “Who collected the pupil?”, add their name, relationship and the time.
- Save.
How do I add or update our pupil list?
- Export a CSV of pupils from SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom or Excel.
- Go to Pupils and drop the file in “Upload a CSV”.
- Check the preview, then import.
Upload a new file whenever pupils join or leave. Existing pupils are updated, not duplicated.
How do I get slips out for an inspection or a report?
In the Office log, filter by type and dates if you need to, then press “Download CSV” to open them in Excel, or “Copy as CSV”.
A parent has asked for all their child’s records
- Go to Pupils and find the child.
- Press “All records”.
- Print it, or save it as a PDF, and send it.
The page only contains this child’s records. Staff sometimes name another child in a slip’s notes (for example, “bumped into Leo”), so check the notes and cover any other child’s name before sending.
How do I get a report for governors or an inspection?
- Press “Reports” at the top of the page.
- Choose a period: this term, last term, this school year or last school year.
- Read the totals and what happened, where, when and in which class.
- Press “Print or save as PDF”, or “Download CSV” to open it in Excel.
Lots of slips in one place or at one time of day can point to something to fix, like equipment or supervision. Pupils with 3 or more slips are listed so you can check on them.
Staff, settings and your subscription
For office and admin staff
How do I add a member of staff?
- Go to Settings, then Staff.
- Enter their name and school email, and choose what they can do.
- Press “Add and email them”. They get an email telling them how to sign in.
Staff can log accidents and incidents. Office can also approve and send slips. Admin can also manage staff and billing.
Someone has left the school
- Go to Settings, then Staff.
- Press “Remove” next to their name.
Their access stops straight away, on the website and the phone. Slips they signed keep their name.
Someone lost the phone with their authenticator app
An admin goes to Settings, then Staff, and presses “Reset two-step” next to their name. They set it up again the next time they sign in.
How do I add our school logo?
Go to Settings, choose a logo under “School logo” and press “Save logo”. It appears on parent emails, office alerts and parent copies.
Is there a letter to tell parents about BumpSlip?
Yes. Go to Settings, then “Letter to parents”. Print it or save it as a PDF and send it home.
How do I choose a plan or pay by invoice?
- Go to Settings and find Subscription.
- Choose annual or monthly to pay by card.
- Or open “Annual plan: pay by invoice instead”, add the email for invoices and a purchase order number if you have one.
You won’t be charged until the free trial ends. We email you 7 days before it does.
What happens if our trial ends without a plan?
New slips are paused, but you can still sign in, see and download every slip. Choose a plan in Settings to carry on.
How do I cancel?
Go to Settings, then “Manage billing, invoices and payment details”. A monthly plan runs to the end of the month you’ve paid for. Download your slips before you leave: we delete a school’s data within 90 days of it leaving.
For parents and carers
If your child’s school uses BumpSlip
I’ve had an email about my child
Your child’s school has sent you a copy of an accident or incident slip. Open the link to read it, then tap “I’ve read this” so the school knows you’ve seen it. If anything worries you, call the school office: the number is on the slip.
The link says it has expired
Links work for 30 days. Ask your child’s school office for another copy.
Who do I ask about the slip or my child’s data?
Your child’s school. They keep the records and decide how they’re used. BumpSlip only stores them for the school.
Still stuck?
Email us and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. Please don’t include pupils’ names or medical details.
